Sweet Child o’ Mine was given away for years to newsletter subscribers. Many of them have been published before in various places. So here are some stories beginning with the first day and ending with a glimpse of the future for this family I love so much. So hopefully I can be forgiven for indulging my love of these characters. Every author puts aspects of herself in her characters, and those two have a lot of me and my husband. Likely because they’re the couple I feel closest to in real life. They’re in my dreams at night and in my mind during the day. I’ve never been able to leave Ian and Charlotte alone. So often we view the wedding as the end of the story when it’s really the start of what becomes a whole life. That’s how romance works, right? We see the fun parts-the sex and the first love and dates and then the wedding.īut I’m old and I’ve been married for 28 years while I write this, and I know that some of the best scenes from my marriage didn’t happen in the beginning. I could have ended the story there and everyone would understand that they went on and had kids and were happy. Even back then I knew Ian would become the center of this universe and he would need a woman who could handle him. That was when Ian Taggart first walked onto the pages of what would become probably the most important series of my career. It was written over the course of several years and represents many of the milestone events for this fictional family I started back in 2011. So this book was a long time in the making.
